Description

All matching an complete Artillery Luger Rig.   Serial number is “1914a” identifying this as an early production pistol for that year.    Imperial German Luger serial numbers were in blocks of 9,999 followed by a letter suffix.   At 9,999, the block reset to 0001 followed by the next letter in the alphabet. In all, about 38,000 lugers were produced in 1914, subsequent years saw significantly higher numbers; 2 million altogether between 1914 and 1918.

All serial numbers match on this pistol except the magazine.  The bore is excellent and the original bluing is very good.  Minor spot of corrosion are evident but no significant pitting exists.  Early fine tune front sight and fine tune rear sight.

The pistol has the original holster marked “ALF. BUHLER STUTTGART 1916”   The holster strap at some point torn and an attempt was made to stitch it.  Otherwise the leather is in very good condition.  The holster includes the original cleaning rod and takedown tool.

The shoulder stock is not matched to the gun “3907” but is original and in very good condition.   Imperial German proof is visible on the stock and attaching iron fits the stock lug on the pistol perfectly and securely.

The pistol has been test fired and functions perfectly and shoots very accurately.   Its difficult to find a more complete and historically accurate example of an Artillery rig.
